The Irish House Bar
The Irish House is an award winning traditional Irish bar on the main street in the heart of Castlebar and home to the best pint in the west.
The original Irish House was established by Mr. James Heverin in 1886 as general drapers. It was described in the local press at the time as being one of the finest business establishments west of the Shannon. The drapery business was passed down through the generations and operated until the late 1950s. In more recent years, the original shop has been split into two commercial units, one of which now houses the Irish House Bar.
The Irish House Bar was established in 1992 by Paul Heverin, a great grandson of the original owner James. Much of the architecture from the original shop remains the same and is still visible around the bar. The Irish House is now being run by Paul’s nephew, Alan Heverin who is the 5th generation of the family to occupy the building.
